Years ago I set up my first coffee station in the kitchen. Living in Seattle, where coffee culture runs deep, it felt natural to create a dedicated spot for brewing and enjoying coffee every day.
If you love coffee or tea, carving out a dedicated zone for a coffee station is a smart idea for any kitchen—whether you’re renovating or simply reworking your counter. A well-organized coffee area adds both function and a cozy, inviting touch to the heart of your home.

Mug Tree
I loved the small mug tree I used in our previous house and enjoyed collecting colorful mugs to hang from it. Recently I upgraded to a taller mug tree that holds many more mugs without taking up extra counter space—perfect for a growing collection.
Not long after I bought the new mug tree, my longtime drip coffee maker stopped working. It had been dependable for years, so I was sad to see it go. For now I’ve been using my Nespresso machine, which I appreciate for its consistent shots and great foam even without a frother. I plan to replace the broken maker eventually—when I find the right model and save up—but the Nespresso fills the gap nicely in the meantime.

Beyond the practicality of keeping mugs accessible, a mug tree brings warmth and personality to the counter. I appreciate a clean, uncluttered kitchen, but a small, intentional display like a mug tree invites you into a daily ritual and makes the space feel lived-in. Because mug trees stack vertically, they free up cabinet space while keeping your favorite mugs within easy reach.

Wall mug rack idea
If counter space is tight, consider mounting a wall mug rack or installing cup hooks under a cabinet. Both solutions keep mugs organized without crowding the workspace and can add visual interest to an otherwise plain wall or cabinet underside.

A tiered stand can be a festive or temporary solution—great for seasonal displays or when you only need a few mugs accessible at once.

For a DIY approach, a simple rod with hooks makes a charming and compact mug rack. My daughter made one for her coffee cart; it’s an attractive, space-saving option that works well in small kitchens or on a mobile station.
A mug rack can also be placed in an informal dining area, near a breakfast nook, or on a beverage cart—there’s flexibility in where you create your coffee zone, depending on how you use your kitchen and dining spaces.
