Decorate with Confidence: Practical Tips for Stylish Home Design

Happy hump-day afternoon! I made a little something for you. While many of our posts are tutorials, projects, shopping guides, or planning notes (how we built this, what we found on Craigslist, how we painted that wall), only a small portion of them speak to the emotional core of DIY: the confidence to embrace your own taste and build a home that reflects who you are.

If you’re feeling stuck or second-guessing yourself (we do it too), a few simple, honest words from people wiser than us can be the nudge you need to pull the cord and go for it. If you’re not fully committed to making your house your own, it’s unlikely someone else will come in and save the vision for you.

I decided to turn some of those favorite lines into free printables, using photos we’ve snapped on Instagram as backgrounds. Print them and pin them on a bulletin board, frame one for your wall, or tuck a few into a gallery arrangement. They’re meant to be friendly reminders to go a little wild creating a space that truly feels like you. My hope is that everyone on this DIY path doesn’t end up chasing a home that pleases everyone else, but instead creates a home they’re absolutely, unapologetically in love with.

Note: The quote in the first printable wasn’t from the B.B. you might be thinking of — it’s from a different source entirely.

To get higher-resolution versions for printing, click any image in this post: a 5 x 5″ printable should open in a new window that you can save or drag to your desktop. I chose 5 x 5″ because that’s the size we used over our sofa in the previous house — they looked great with a fabric background and the white mat that comes with a simple frame. Those compact square prints make a strong visual impact when grouped, and they’re easy to swap out as your tastes evolve.

I also made a version aimed at writers, bloggers, and anyone who spends time crafting words online — a little reminder to relax about perfection and just create. Hang it near your desk to keep the momentum going when the blank page feels intimidating.

These printables are meant to be simple tools: small pieces of encouragement to help you trust your instincts, follow your tastes, and create a home that makes you happy every day. Whether you’re painting, rearranging, sourcing a few new pieces, or tackling a bigger project, let these little reminders be permission to make choices that reflect your style. Enjoy, and happy creating!
