Weekend DIY Potting Table and Garden Project Guide

potting bench and herb garden

A weekend project finally completed at last. After dreaming about potting benches for years, I decided to turn inspiration into action. Potting tables have a timeless charm and practical purpose—somewhere to trim herbs, repot plants, and enjoy the garden. This time I made it happen.

Potting Table:
A place to spend time cutting herbs, potting new plants,
and finding inspiration in the garden.

Over the years I’ve shared ideas for potting tables and shelves, and always hoped to have my own. I finally brought that vision to life. The table I started with came from my previous house; it had stood unused for years, just waiting for a purpose. This project was the perfect way to give it new life.

I began with a blank slate and a few garden accessories. With a little effort the space transformed into a welcoming potting area where tools, pots, and plants come together. Simple additions can make a big difference: a few well-placed containers, fresh soil, and a selection of herbs and vegetables create instant charm.

Behold, the beauty of plants.

The scents around the potting table are irresistible. If only blogs could share fragrance—what a delight that would be. Still, the visual and tactile pleasures of tending plants are enough to make this a favorite spot.

Practical details matter too: sturdy rain boots are essential if you garden in a wet climate. A few weather-ready accessories keep the space functional and inviting all season long.

The potting table sits beside our new fire pit area, another quick weekend makeover. I even added a patio-sized orange tree that fills the air with a lovely scent.

To complete the setup in a single weekend, I gathered pots, herbs and vegetables, green trellises, an old Adirondack chair made for my daughter, and a few decorative items. The result is a functional potting area that I expect will evolve into a productive kitchen garden over time. It’s a small space that invites daily use and slow growth.

How is your garden growing this year? Do you have a dedicated spot for potting and planting?

Thanks to Lowe’s for providing plants, pots, trellises, vines, and the green pillow used in this project, which helped bring this outdoor refresh to life. More weekend makeovers are on the way.
