Hi friends! Thank you so much for all your kind messages — your support means the world to our family as we settle into this new home. Many of you have followed along for years, and I’m so grateful. If I could, I’d invite every one of you over — consider this a virtual invitation to come on in!
We moved into a house that came partially furnished, so while our own belongings are still packed or at the other house, we already have some furniture that makes the space comfortable. Some pieces will stay, some will be passed to the kids, and a few we’ll give away. Once we officially move, we’ll bring in favorites from our previous home to make this place truly ours.
Even with comfortable basics in place, I wanted to add a few touches right away to help this house feel lived-in and cozy—especially for fall. Since many of our accessories were still packed, I did some online shopping at Walmart for a few affordable items to warm up the entry and porch.
Choosing and arranging these seasonal accents made the space feel instantly welcoming.
I’ll mention sources throughout and include a full list at the end.

A simple way to introduce fall at the front door is with a seasonal wreath. I love one with lots of texture — pumpkins, colorful leaves, berries, pinecones, wheat, feathers, and burlap all add interest. A neighbor already stopped by to say how cute it looks. It felt festive without being over the top.

Placing a jute rug in the entry instantly added warmth and texture. Natural fibers like jute bring a cozy, grounded feeling and work well with many styles.

I’m missing some of the porch elements from our old house, but I’m thrilled with this new porch and entry. The porch has room for a bench, which is a great anchor piece to decorate around. Ours was already here, but a similar bench works perfectly for vignettes or seasonal styling.
A simple doormat can change the whole look of a doorway. You can layer rugs or keep it minimal — either works. With so many elaborate porch décor ideas online, it’s easy to feel pressured to go all out, but sometimes simpler is better. Start with a doormat that’s versatile enough to stay out through several seasons.
We picked a doormat that isn’t overly seasonal so it will work for multiple times of the year.

I found a woven textured throw pillow that looks lovely on the bench and also softens the porch’s hard surfaces. It was from a limited-time collection with many affordable finds, so I always check that section to see what’s new.
I tried a black lantern in a few spots on the porch and loved the way it warmed the space. I’ll probably pick up a couple more since they look charming everywhere and create a cozy glow at night. Using battery-operated outdoor candles makes the lanterns easy to manage, and many come with timers so they turn on automatically.

A rattan basket with a patterned tasseled throw looks so inviting on the porch. I set this up and, predictably, my husband was later wrapped in the blanket — exactly as intended. A basket with a cozy throw is practical and welcoming for both guests and family.

The kids, Jack and Lily, are enjoying all the new spaces and viewpoints in the house. Jack, especially, loves staying cozy inside — he’s a true homebody. He’s been enjoying the texture of the jute rug in the entry.

I fell for a compact white-and-beige ceramic lamp for the entry table. It’s the perfect size for a small surface and adds soft evening light — a staple for a welcoming entry. We replaced a lamp that was needed in another room with this one, and it feels just right here.
So cozy!

I love that we’re moving in during fall. While this neighborhood is lovely year-round — with walkability, ferries, beaches, and parks nearby — autumn evenings by the fire feel especially like home to me.
Thanks for stopping by my new home — there’s more to come! Below are the links to the items I used from Walmart Home.
