Do you remember my square felt garland from last year? I loved that garland, but this season I transformed it into something I love even more: a winter felt wreath.
My original garland was pretty but a bit too short to use as intended. Rather than making more felt squares, I realized I could easily convert the existing garland into a cozy wreath.
I picked up a simple wreath frame and some floral wire at the craft store—just a few dollars worth of supplies—and used what I already had to finish the project.
This wreath is one of my favorite easy crafts: no sewing machine, no complicated techniques, just simple materials and a little time.
Cutting the felt squares took the longest portion of the project, mostly because I was using dull scissors. The shapes don’t need to be perfect; a slightly uneven look adds to the wreath’s soft, handmade charm. Attaching the garland to the frame only took a couple of minutes.
There are many felt squares involved—hundreds if you want a full, fluffy look.
How to make a felt wreath
Gather felt in the colors you like. I used white, cream, and taupe, but pick any palette that suits your decor. Cut roughly 2-inch squares from the felt. If you have sharp scissors, this goes quickly; if not, don’t worry about perfection—the slightly irregular edges add texture and warmth.
String the squares together using dental floss and a needle to create a long garland. This is a simple, repetitive task that’s relaxing once you get into the rhythm.
Lay the garland around your wreath frame and adjust it until it sits evenly. I added a ribbon to the frame at this point so the wreath would be ready to hang when finished, but you can use a hook instead if you prefer.
I photographed my process at night, so the lighting in the pictures is a bit dim—apologies for the moody photos.
Secure the garland to the frame with floral wire. I worked from the middle of the garland and fastened it to the ring at several points. Use enough wire to keep the wreath circular and stable; you can pull the felt slightly tighter if you want it more compact.
Trim and tuck the ends of the wire once everything is attached. Where the two ends of the garland meet, remove any excess squares so the finish is neat, then tie the floss ends together and fasten that section to the frame.
You can add a small accent—like the bell I hung on mine—or leave the wreath plain for a more minimalist look. The bell is optional and can be removed after the holidays or replaced with another decoration.

Voila — a simple, cozy wreath made from felt garland. Easy and charming.
Pretty crafty, right?
