How to Tell When Your Fiddle Leaf Fig Is Thriving

Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree in the Entry - The Inspired Room

Do you remember the unfortunate tale of my last fiddle leaf fig? I guess I enjoy second chances, because we have a new fiddle leaf fig in the family — this cheerful specimen came from Ikea.

Fiddle leaf figs often get a reputation for being finicky, but so far this one is doing very well.

For the past few months he’s been posted in a slightly sheltered corner of our front porch where the light is bright, and he’s absolutely thrived. Now that I’ve moved him inside to the entry, I worry I might have upset him.

The entry benefits from plenty of light thanks to windows and a skylight, but fiddle leaf figs are known to dislike frequent relocation, so moving him could be risky.

They tend to prefer bright, indirect light, and many plant owners recommend cleaning their large leaves occasionally to remove dust and help them photosynthesize more efficiently.

That said, my previous fiddle leaf didn’t make it, so I can’t claim expert status yet. I’m learning as I go and hoping this one settles in for the long haul.

Do you have a fiddle leaf fig? What are some of your favorite indoor plants?
