As the days shorten and the air turns crisp, winter is approaching — it’s time to prepare your winter sanctuary.
Each year I notice the same discussion online: people eager to decorate for Christmas versus those who want to stay fully present in autumn.
My view is simple: you can do both.
Starting holiday or winter preparations a few weeks earlier doesn’t mean rushing the season away. Thoughtful preparation can actually help you be more present — both in the current season and the one to come.
Putting off preparation or trying to do everything at the last minute often leads to disappointment or exhaustion when the next season arrives.
There’s a balance between presence and preparation — what I call your seasonal home rhythm. Everyone’s rhythm is different. It isn’t about how much you do or when you do it, but about shaping an atmosphere that welcomes you and brings peace and beauty into your home and life.

Hygge for HomeBodies
Not everyone looks forward to winter. Dark evenings, cold mornings, holiday overwhelm, or the post-holiday letdown can make this season challenging for many.
We’re starting a Winter Series in HomeBody Gathering Place now — before the holiday rush — so we can enter the season inspired and ready to enjoy it.
You’re invited to join our series, Hygge for HomeBodies, in the cozy corner of The Inspired Room known as HomeBody Gathering Place.
This winter we’ll draw on hygge — the Danish approach to coziness and contentment — and our HomeBody philosophy of slow decorating, meaningful rhythms, and building sanctuary for every season.
Hygge isn’t primarily about decorations or entertaining; it’s a feeling — a quiet sense of comfort found in simple pleasures: a warm mug, candlelight on a dark night, or time with good company.
I also love the word hyggelig, which describes something that feels cozy and pleasant. A hyggelig moment might be curling up under a blanket, reading by the fire, or sharing a meal with loved ones.
That’s the atmosphere we’ll cultivate this winter and through the holidays — a home that feels hyggelig, comfortable, and welcoming.

In HomeBody Gathering Place we’re focusing on how to bring warmth and intention into your home from now through the winter months.
Hygge for HomeBodies provides a simple plan to prepare for the season, cozy inspiration galleries to enjoy all winter, and printables and resources to help you create your winter sanctuary.
Members will feel happier and cozier all winter and more prepared to be present during the holidays.
