House Beautiful – Miki Duisterhof
I came across this photograph on House Beautiful and it immediately captured my attention. When an image does that, I pause and ask myself why. Reflecting on what draws me to a space helps me sharpen my design sensibilities and grow more confident in my own taste.
The room reads upscale at first glance, yet it also feels relaxed and versatile. What I love most is how the space balances style and everyday use: the round table surrounded by a mix of eclectic chairs feels welcoming and comfortable. It’s a setting where you could host a refined dinner, but it also looks perfectly suited for casual meals, game nights, or homework sessions.
Despite its elegant feel, the room is one that could be recreated without an extravagant budget. Thoughtful choices—like a durable, easy-to-clean rug that still reads as high quality—make the design practical for real life while maintaining a polished look.
Large windows and glass doors flood the room with natural light, enhancing the airy atmosphere. At the same time, the layering of light sources creates a warm, inviting glow in the evening, so the space feels equally appealing day or night.
Another standout feature is the vaulted wood ceiling. It adds warmth, texture, and architectural interest, grounding the room and giving it a distinctive character.
When you see rooms or design photos that attract you, do you take a moment to consider what specifically draws you in?
