White Slipcovered Couch Arrival: Styling and Care Tips

Remember when I mentioned I had ordered a new slipcovered couch? It arrived yesterday and I’m so excited to share a first look. I’ll be back with more details and photos as I set the room up.

If you notice a warm glow across the floor and rug in the photos, that’s from wildfire smoke in the Seattle sky making the sun look like an orange orb through the haze. The air was smoky that day even though the fires aren’t nearby.

The couch was just delivered, so the slipcover still has packing wrinkles and the room isn’t fully styled yet (hence the lamp perched on a stool), but I couldn’t wait to show it.

This is the couch I have: the deep seat slipcovered version with a bench cushion, 80 inches long in Warm White Denim.

The moment the delivery team set it down I knew it would bring a simple, crisp feeling to the living room. My dark velvet couch has been moved downstairs, so we’ll keep enjoying that in another space.

The new slipcover uses the same washable fabric I had on my original sofa and it’s just as lovely—soft to the touch and a nice contrast against the Benjamin Moore Simply White walls.

It’s very comfortable. The deep seat is perfect for curling up, yet not so deep that sitting and talking feels awkward (and I’m only 5’2″, so that’s saying something). With pillows behind you it’s easy to sit upright and chat.

Now that the couch is in place I can finally put the room together. I’ve been planning for weeks, but having the actual piece in the space makes it so much easier to visualize. I’m undecided about bringing my leather sofa into this room as well, but I know the eventual look will combine long-time favorites: whites, wood tones, leather, and lots of textural warmth with seasonal accents.

My daughter Courtney—who has been my full-time assistant for the past few years—can’t wait to help with styling and rearranging. We’ll try a few layouts and tweak details, so expect more photos and different angles soon.

PS. My annual Fall Nesting series will start soon. I’m excited to share cozy layering ideas and seasonal touches. After a summer interrupted by smoky skies, I’m especially ready to enjoy nesting indoors.
