Our family Christmas didn’t go exactly as planned, but we received an unexpected and beautiful gift: a white Christmas. Snow is uncommon in the Pacific Northwest, and seeing it fall on Christmas Day was especially magical. Unlike many Northwest storms, this snow stuck around instead of melting away immediately.
We’ve been savoring every moment of this snowy surprise. Most of the week has been spent curled up in bed or relaxing by the fire with hot drinks. With temperatures dipping to 12 degrees this morning, staying cozy indoors felt just right as we watched the winter scenery outside our windows. It’s been the perfect time to embrace a slower, home-centered holiday.

Because of the storm risks and other concerns, our children and extended family chose not to travel here for Christmas. We missed them dearly, but it was the sensible choice to keep everyone safe. We’re mindful that many families faced far more difficult circumstances this season, so we’re grateful our loved ones are healthy and well.

Even without the usual crowd, the combination of fresh snow, the cozy feeling of our new home, and a cheerful Zoom gathering made the day feel special.
