I love the way vintage charm blends with modern cottage style.

A vintage-inspired modern cottage relies on a soft, muted palette and thoughtfully chosen vintage touches: weathered wood textures, subtly distressed finishes, and antique-inspired shapes. Pair those elements with clean, contemporary lines in furniture and textiles so the overall look feels fresh, balanced, and inviting.

We moved into a 1950s house in Seattle four years ago. Since then I’ve been slowly shaping the home’s character with pieces and details that inspire me.

While I treasure a few true vintage finds, you can achieve a similar atmosphere by mixing new items that feel like they belong to another era. Look for finishes, shapes, and textures that suggest age without overwhelming the space.

I want my home to feel like a place where I can curl up and linger. With cooler seasons approaching, layering textures—soft throws, woven pillows, and tactile rugs—greatly increases that cozy, lived-in feeling.

Recently I added a few vintage-inspired accents to the living room. The throw blanket and pillows are from Walmart’s vintage-inspired collection; they add character and texture against the clean lines of my sofa. I especially love the playful pom-pom tassels that bring a touch of whimsy.

A pair of vintage-style blue glass vases hold the last hydrangeas from my garden. Faded blooms in simple glass feel timeless—like something you might find on a grandmother’s kitchen table.

You don’t need major renovations to introduce a vintage-modern vibe. Small, intentional changes—a new pillow, a textured throw, an antique-looking vase—can transform the mood of a room without a big investment.

I like to think a home should reflect the way we change over time. Mixing styles and eras feels honest and warm; a vintage-inspired accessory can add personality and depth that makes a space feel truly yours.
