Ifeel for anyone stuck in snow all winter. A little snow can be charming, but weeks of freezing temperatures and constant gray get old fast. It’s cold where I am too (so far no snow), and I keep wishing for warmer days and a beach escape. A summer getaway sounds perfect right about now.

Imagine spending a week in an oceanfront cottage on Tybee Island. If that sounds good, read on—I’ll share a peek at the cottage where my daughters and I stayed, so you can enjoy a little virtual beach vacation with us.

My two daughters and I had never taken a proper “girls’ getaway” before, so last fall I made it happen. I was traveling a lot for work and noticed a five-day window between trips, so instead of racing across the country I invited them to join me for a week on Tybee Island with a few day trips to nearby Savannah.

We had a wonderful time—walking the beach, eating local food, shopping and being tourists. We also used the time to work on goals and brainstorm creative ideas together. My daughters are both busy with careers—one at Amazon and the other at Restoration Hardware—so having those five days together was rare and valuable. It was absolutely worth the trip.

We stayed at Doyles on the Dunes, part of the Mermaid Cottages collection. The cottage is a cozy oceanfront retreat with an incredible view and direct access to the beach. It delivered everything we’d hoped for in a casual seaside getaway, and I was able to devote time to a big work project while still enjoying family time.
Here’s a little tour of our stay and the cottage features that made it special.

The staff at Mermaid Cottages were warm and helpful, and our time on Tybee created lasting memories. We left relaxed, inspired and already planning our next visit.
I’ll share more from our Savannah adventures and another lovely beachfront rental we stayed in on Tybee Island in upcoming posts. Until then, even if winter still lingers where you are, it helps to dream about sun, sand and salty air.
So, are you ready for winter to be over?
