As 2023 draws to a close, I wanted to look back at The Inspired Room readers’ favorite decor items from the year. After finishing renovations, I enjoyed doing more decorating at home these past few months, and I’m excited to focus on decorating (less construction!) in 2024.
I’ve been creating The Inspired Room for 17 years, and I love helping readers decorate with affordable, timeless, and stylish pieces. I share many items I own and also carefully select pieces I’d feel comfortable buying for my home. Hearing from readers who bought and love recommendations is always the best part.
Here are YOUR favorites from 2023 (and mine, too!).
Jute and cotton rug – I added this rug in 2023 and love it. It’s soft, doesn’t shed, and comes in multiple colors. We use a rug pad with it for extra cushioning and to keep it in place, which makes it even more comfortable.
Plaid chair – I have these chairs in plaid and stripe (two striped upstairs and one plaid downstairs). They’re perfect for small spaces; I sit in the plaid chair every day by the fire—it’s cozy and comfortable.
Patterned rug in ocean/gold – This rug is in our dining room and adds a beautiful touch. It works well with coastal and cottage styling and photographs nicely in the space.
Patterned cork-back placemats – These are sturdy, high-quality placemats with a cork backing. I keep them in a basket on the island for easy access; the pattern and colors are lovely and they feel built to last.
Reversible throw blanket – These throws are lightweight, machine washable, super soft, and available in many patterns and colors. Everyone who has one seems to love it for sofas, chairs, and beds.
Rattan serving cart – We use a rattan serving cart in the kitchen. It’s practical for serving and adds a warm, natural texture to the room.
Wood folding tray table (set of 2) – These tray tables are great for small spaces, casual meals, and flexible entertaining. They’re easy to store and pull out when needed.
Meadow art print – This whimsical art print brings a delightful, serene vibe to a room and pairs beautifully with soft, neutral decor.
Jute-wrapped chandelier with shades – Installed in our dining room, this chandelier works with a variety of shade options or can be used without shades for a simpler look. It adds texture and a coastal-cottage feel.
Buffalo check curtains – I have these in chambray in my bedroom. The check pattern is a classic that adds cozy, casual charm to a room.
Toaster oven with air fryer – This appliance is compact and versatile; my parents use it as their primary oven in their tiny cottage and love it. It’s also useful as backup during holidays.
Faux tulips – These realistic faux tulips come in several colors and look fresh and lifelike in arrangements, making them a favorite easy decor piece.
Hobnail goblets – These goblets are pretty, sturdy, and the green hue is especially lovely. They elevate casual table settings without feeling fussy.
Brass pharmacy floor lamp – I have this in my bedroom. It’s a versatile lamp that adds both function and vintage-inspired warmth to a space.
Brass wall sconces with linen shades (set of 2) – I used these in both black and brass finishes. They can be installed without hardwiring using rechargeable bulbs or hardwired later; they’re a flexible lighting solution that brightens and styles a wall.
Window candles – These battery-operated window candles bring a cozy glow to winter evenings. They have thoughtful features that make them stand out and make lovely gifts for family members.
Hanging lit stars – We hang these stars on our porch every year. They create a warm, welcoming display and are a seasonal favorite for many readers.
Leather armchair – I’ve had the loveseat version for years and it improves with age. Leather adds character and longevity to seating pieces.
Simply Home book – Thank you for supporting my latest book, which combines two popular titles into a single hardback edition focused on simple organizing and decorating.
Rattan accent cabinet – Small accent cabinets are so useful. I’ve used them as entry command centers and for storing office supplies, bedding, and entertaining items. They’re practical and attractive in many rooms.
Honorable Mentions:
Garden hose – We got a new garden hose last summer and it’s the best I’ve owned. It’s available in 50- and 100-foot lengths and handles well in regular use.
Bamboo window shades – We recently installed bamboo shades and I’ve enjoyed the layered, natural texture they bring. Several readers have messaged that they installed them too.
Bestsellers in my storefront – I feature a curated list of bestselling decor items in my store for easy browsing.
