“Our dwellings—both our home and body—are intricately connected.
Each has the potential to inspire the other to be its very best.
Our dwellings will impact our overall wellness and sense of well-being, each like a vessel that can be filled or depleted by our daily choices and habits.”
— from the brand new book Dwelling by New York Times Bestselling Author Melissa Michaels
Self-care is a frequent topic today, and for good reason.
Many suggest that true well-being or personal fulfillment comes only from stepping away from daily life—taking trips, retreats, or long breaks to recharge. While those escapes can be restorative, they aren’t the only path to nurturing ourselves.

I believe self-care can also be rooted in the ordinary: how we care for our home and how we feel within it. Treating your living space and your body with attention and kindness is itself an important act of self-care.
When we become more mindful at home—slowing down, choosing healthier routines, and creating spaces that support calm and clarity—we offer ourselves consistent, everyday nourishment. Those choices ripple outward, improving our relationships and the environments we share.

That said, occasional escapes can still be vital. A getaway can refresh perspective and restore energy. The point is balance: combine restorative breaks with daily habits that cultivate well-being right where you live.
By tending both body and home with intention—through small rituals, thoughtful organization, and gentle self-awareness—you build a lasting foundation of wellness that can influence future generations.
