After a week of rain, snow, hail and bright sun during this first week of spring in the Northwest, I’m more than ready for gardening weather. My plan later this spring is to tackle my very small front yard, which is currently just a muddy patch. I’m excited to transform it into something lovely.
I’m thinking of bringing in gravel to create a small pathway and defining garden beds filled with low-maintenance evergreens and creeping plants. A bench or a small seating area will finish the space and make it a cozy spot to enjoy warm afternoons. It feels like a manageable outdoor project for the summer.
There is something so rewarding about working on a little patch of ground and turning it into a pretty garden, don’t you think?
Wouldn’t it be pure bliss to have a garden shed like the one below? I took that photo while browsing Ravenna Gardens at University Village in Seattle. I love the copper roof and the charming, well-curated feel of the shop.

To inspire spring gardening, my daughter Courtney put together a small collage of favorite gardening items. It’s full of simple, pretty things that make the season feel fresh and hopeful.
If it’s still too early to work outdoors where you are, you might enjoy bringing a bit of nature inside with seasonal decor or refreshing your wardrobe with spring pieces. Little touches—like a vase of branches, a few potted plants, or a floral scarf—can help you enjoy the season even from indoors.
Whether you plan to be inside or outside this weekend, I hope the weather feels spring-like and pleasant for whatever you choose to do.
Happy Friday! What are your plans this weekend?
{Our plans for Saturday include staying inside and painting some walls!}
