The pups and I saved a cozy spot just for you on our refreshed side patio. Come on in, pour a cup of iced tea or coffee, and join us in the sun for a spring patio tour.

Spring has arrived in Seattle and we’ve been savoring every moment of blue skies and warmer afternoons. The sunshine has inspired us to set up a fresh and inviting oasis on the side patio, perfect for quiet mornings and relaxed gatherings.

I don’t feel the need to replace everything each season. Over time you can build a space you love by adding a few seasonal pieces. For this refresh I introduced a handful of new items that brought a lively spring mood without starting from scratch.
Our World Market outdoor sectional and cushions are actually five years old. We moved them from our previous home and they’re still in excellent condition. That’s why I recommend World Market pieces—good design and lasting value.

Here’s what’s new on our patio.

One of the new additions is a compact coffee table that’s perfect for morning coffee, breakfast, or a casual lunch outdoors.
A punchy blue rug and navy-and-white striped pillows (Sunbrella fabric) set a nautical-inspired palette that feels right for our home. Since our backyard faces the Puget Sound, a coastal touch complements the view.

The bold patterned rug brings the seating area together and gives the little oasis personality and flair.

The striped cushion placed on the rug is actually a dog bed — already a favorite spot for our pups. Lily, in particular, loves being outside and has claimed every comfy surface available.

Two small blue side tables help make the layout practical. Because part of the sectional sits a little farther from the coffee table, side tables keep drinks and plates within easy reach.

The large palm tree lived in our living room for a while and now enjoys springtime outdoors. I love the elevated planter on a stand because it gives the plant presence and creates a strong visual statement.

I like mixing rugs to define different zones. A striped rug marks the spot off the kitchen porch while a bolder patterned rug anchors the main conversation area. The variation helps each space feel intentional while creating a cohesive whole.

Repetition is a simple design tool I use to unify the look: matching pillow fabric, coordinating umbrellas, and string lights all help tie distinct elements together so the whole design reads as one inviting space.

I added lantern hooks by the gate and placed battery-operated votives in the lanterns for a safe, charming glow in the garden area. Soon that border will be full of peonies, white climbing roses, and jasmine — I’m looking forward to that display.

I’ve been sitting outside every day for the past week, enjoying the sun, breeze, and fresh air. It’s been a lovely place to read, relax, and spend time with the dogs.

I also added solar-powered string lights across the fence. They look charming during the day and should offer a gentle glow at night once they’ve had time to charge fully.

World Market has plenty of fun pieces for indoor and outdoor spaces, and seasonal sales make it a great time to refresh a room or patio without overspending.
