I took a little trip to the market the other day. There’s a market in Poulsbo not far from home that I enjoy visiting. It’s mostly food, but they have a charming flower section. Seeing those spring blooms brightened my mood—so many lovely colors and varieties of flowers and greenery. I kept picking up stems, trying different combinations, and texting photos to my daughter Courtney to share how delighted I was. She’s used to my excited messages when I find pretty things and graciously pauses to entertain my floral deliberations. Before long I’d chosen just the right stems.
Note to self: plant more spring flowers in the yard for cutting. Must.

When I returned home I removed the winter stems from my door basket, filled three jars with water inside the basket, and arranged the fresh spring blooms. It was instant joy—the entry looked so cheerful. Inspired, I tidied the porch and cleared away a few random things, including an embarrassing discovery: a tiny, shriveled, moldy pumpkin hiding behind some planters (yes, it happened two years in a row!).
It only took a few minutes to freshen the porch and front door, but I was glad I made the time. Often we move quickly to take care of everyone and everything else and forget to give our home—or ourselves—the little bit of TLC we deserve.
So, if you haven’t already, let’s say goodbye to winter.
Go treat yourself to some pretty flowers this week.
If it’s still snowing where you are (I’m sorry!), you definitely need some spring blooms on your table.
