Spring Cleaning
I love having a clean house. I’m more productive, happier, and everything feels better when my home is free of clutter and well cared for.
A messy house doesn’t bother everyone, but for me it raises my stress and anxiety. I feel distracted, less engaged, and generally less pleasant to be around. When I’m overwhelmed by clutter, it’s harder to focus and enjoy the rest of life.
Does that mean my house is always spotless? No—absolutely not. I’m not obsessive about housework or organization. I can tolerate imperfection and “happy chaos” on a day-to-day basis. Like many busy families, we live with the reality of a full schedule and competing priorities.
That said, I’ve found a balance: a comfortable, fairly orderly home that helps me feel capable and inspired without requiring constant, perfectionist effort. This balance lets me spend time on other important parts of life—running a business, volunteering, participating in community groups, being present with my family, and welcoming guests without weeks of preparation.
How to Keep Your House Clean
I rely on four practical habits that help us maintain a clean home.
These aren’t secrets like hiring a staff of professionals—although that would be nice sometimes! Instead, they’re everyday practices my husband and I use to manage our home together. We handle routine tasks ourselves and save deep cleaning jobs for occasional focused sessions.
Consistent, simple systems make everyday upkeep realistic and sustainable. Small routines reduce clutter buildup, make cleaning faster, and keep the house welcoming without constant effort.
I’ll share more about our organization routines and how I keep track of what’s stored in baskets and bins in an upcoming post. Practical tips and easy-to-follow strategies help make staying organized feel achievable, not overwhelming.
Happy spring cleaning!
