Do you have a defined entry in your home? Many of the houses we viewed while house hunting had no separate foyer. Even though our entry is narrow and functions more like a hallway than a room, it’s still rewarding to carve out a small, useful space. Since installing a Dutch door, I’ve come to appreciate our entry even more.

Small entries — and small spaces in general — present the challenge of blending function with charm. Below are practical, inspiring ideas for adding character and usability to a tight or nonexistent entry area.
