Dash & Albert Catamaran Striped Runner
Ilove striped rugs in kitchens. When Wayfair offered the chance to receive a new rug, I chose a Dash & Albert runner to place in front of my sink. Runners add warmth, protect floors, and bring a finished look that really elevates a kitchen.
No need to worry about spills — this is an indoor/outdoor rug, so it’s much more durable and easy to clean than traditional rugs. That makes it practical for busy cooking nights. Runners are also simple to move: if you expect a messy sauce night, you can quickly roll one up and set it aside until the sauce-splosion is over.
The runner sat rolled up in a corner collecting remodeling dust for a while, so excuse the casual placement and lack of a rug pad in the photos. I’ve held off fully settling it into place until the kitchen is painted, since rugs feel like a final, finishing touch once a room is complete. Pretend the painter’s tape and dust on the cabinets aren’t there — I’m saving the rug for the final reveal.

I decided to order two identical runners. Having a spare gives me peace of mind: if someone spills right before company arrives, I can hose one down and quickly swap in the other. That was a happy bonus — my original plan was to use both runners simultaneously in the kitchen and hallway. Until the paint is finished, I’m still deciding the final layout.
On the remodel front, I think I’ve found my cabinet painter. Thanks to a recommendation from a local reader, I’m hopeful the cabinets will be painted next week. It’s been a long process, but we’re finally close to the finish line. I’m willing to delay holiday decorating a bit if it means getting these projects wrapped up properly.
New cabinet hardware is ready to install, and I can’t wait to show it to you. I’ve marked the doors that need holes filled for different hardware — hence the painter’s tape — so the painter knows what needs attention. I’m also planning a small DIY tweak to a few of the pulls using a Dremel; I’ll share that when I show the new hardware in a follow-up post.
It’s exciting to be on the homestretch. The painted cabinets will make a huge difference, and the runners will finally feel like they belong.
Cheers to everyone tackling last-minute projects before the holidays — there’s still time to get things done.
Thanks to Wayfair for providing the Dash & Albert striped runners.
