Nostalgia Rewind: Blast From the Past — Part 3

We’ve just returned from Christmas in West Virginia and are excited to share the final installment of our “Places We Used to Live” video series. This episode introduces a new city—Richmond, VA—and a new living situation: our first time cohabiting. It was a big step and full of memorable moments.

Our First Apartment Together in Richmond was a typical one-bedroom in a suburban complex, but it felt special to us. After moving from New York City, having that extra space for far less money felt like a luxury. We were thrilled to finally share a home and settle into a place that suited our needs.

Highlights to watch for in the video:

  • Sherry’s unmistakable giddiness as she excitedly points out apartment “features.”
  • Our eclectic collection of free and donated furniture—an honest snapshot of moving cross-state in a minivan.
  • The tall ceilings, which convinced us to take the third-floor unit.
  • A kitchen that felt far more fully stocked than Sherry’s old NYC space.
  • Extra album-cover artwork on the walls, thanks to the band OK Go.
  • Our budget-friendly DIY bird wall decals: we cut bird shapes from blue manila folders and taped them to the walls as a playful substitute for store-bought decals.

We’ll be shifting focus back to the present now. Upcoming posts will include the gifts we gave each other, the items we received, and the finds we picked up during the post-holiday sales. Stay tuned for more real-life updates and home projects.
