Meet Molly: The Awkward DIY Blogger Reveals Her Winning Project

Thank you to everyone who joined in our Guess the DIY Blogger: The Awkward Years giveaway! It was a lighthearted post and we appreciated how many of you played along. Looking back at those old, awkward photos was so much fun — and comforting too. Clearly we weren’t the only teenagers who survived questionable haircuts and styles.

The most talked-about comparison was whether my awkward-era photo looked like Molly Ringwald from the 1980s. I’ll admit the resemblance has been mentioned before, but I’m not a teen actress turned blogger — just someone who used to have the same big hair trends as everyone else in that decade.

Matching up the bloggers to their childhood photos wasn’t easy. Many of you did a great job noticing the subtle features — eyes, jawlines, dimples — that help identify someone despite the hairstyle of the era. If you tried to match people by hair alone, the odds were against you; the 80s gave a lot of us bold, over-the-top looks, including an impressive number of mullets and high-volume styles.

There was, of course, one official winner who matched every blogger correctly and was the first to submit the right answers. We’re pleased to congratulate our winner:

Sara from Mom Endeavors

Sara knows the DIY/blogging world well — she’s a blogger herself — and despite juggling a sick little one, she took the time to click through the entries and identify all 29 bloggers. Please join us in congratulating her and, if you wish, leave a comment on her blog to say hello.
