It feels like spring at our house, and more than that, it finally feels like home. We’ve been here nearly six years — longer than I’ve ever lived anywhere — and it’s a comforting feeling to be so settled. Over time this place has continued to nurture and surprise us. It’s not perfect, of course, but each season makes the space feel more familiar and more ours.
This time of year the natural beauty around us is especially striking. On sunny weekends the water fills with sails, and the breeze carries the scent of lilacs and salt through our open windows. There are many details about this home that I didn’t fully appreciate from the listing photos — small things that have shaped how we live and feel here. Every home has its own character, and as you care for it and learn its rhythms, life in it becomes richer.
The longer we live here, the more the house reflects our style. Each season brings greater clarity to the vision I have for the rooms and the personality of the house itself. Lately I’ve been leaning into a relaxed summer-cottage-by-the-sea vibe, and it simply feels right for this home.
I mentioned in a recent Life Lately post that we added a new rug to the living room, and I wanted to share more about that today.

We chose an indoor/outdoor rug for durability and easy cleaning — it’s practical and feels like the perfect pair of jeans for the room. The neutral base works with everything, while the blue tones add a cheerful, grounding touch that warms the space without overpowering it.
Underneath the rug we added a plush rug pad to give extra cushioning and prevent slipping, which makes the area feel cozier and more secure.
