Carefree Summer
Last week I took a day off and even turned down a conference call with HGTV and designer David Bromstad so I could spend uninterrupted time with my son. I shut down the computer, turned off my phone and we spent the day together without screens. It felt simple and restorative.
Finding time to enjoy summer can be difficult when you live where you work. My husband and I are in a very busy season, so we have to intentionally step away from our devices and schedules to get the rest we need. Those deliberate pauses are what make days off truly feel like a break.
This summer we’ve planned more of those intentional, carefree, computer-free days—times to slow down, play, and be present with family. Whether it’s a walk in the neighborhood, a picnic in the yard, or a relaxed afternoon at home, small rituals of unplugging help us reconnect and recharge.
For ideas on making the most of summer at home, I shared six practical tips over at (in)courage. They focus on simple ways to cultivate beauty, joy, and presence in everyday moments without traveling or spending a lot of money.
