Lantern Ceiling Lights: Fresh Bedroom Lighting Ideas

With the new year here, I’ve been busy making design choices to make our new house feel like our own. I’ve always been drawn to lantern-style lighting—remember the copper and iron lantern we used in our craftsman lake house dining room?—so choosing a lantern for our bedroom was one of the first lighting decisions I made. Below I’m sharing the new ceiling light I ordered for our bedroom.

As part of my “A Lovely January” home challenge, I’ve been searching for a new ceiling fixture for the bedroom. I shared my bedroom design plans earlier in the challenge and have been updating the room as I go. We’re using many pieces we already own, but swapping the ceiling light is a quick way to add personality and a finished look to a new space. You can see the current fixture in the room in the photo above.

Lighting plays a big role in defining a room’s style. Our new home leans into a beach-house aesthetic—its architecture was inspired by Nantucket-style homes, and we enjoy sea views and a short walk to the beach. Coastal influence is something I naturally bring into my homes, so I wanted a fixture that reflected that vibe while complementing this house’s architecture.

When I discovered this lantern, I knew it would make a strong statement in the bedroom. I wanted something that felt fresh but with an old-world quality—classy without being fussy, timeless yet striking. While black or brass are classic choices, the navy finish added a subtle coastal feel that appealed to me, especially paired with brass accents. The fixture also comes in white and iron finishes, so there are options depending on your decor.

I settled on navy for our bedroom. It feels right for the space and ties into the coastal palette I’m using throughout the house. Once the lantern arrives I’ll share photos so you can see how it transforms the room.

For now, here are images of the lantern in different finishes and installed in inspiration rooms to show how versatile the style can be.

I’m excited for the lantern to arrive and will update this post with installation photos and the finished look. It’s a small change that makes a big impact, and I love how it will reinforce the coastal, timeless mood we’re creating in this home.
