Now that the new year is here, I’ve been focused on design choices to make our new house feel like our own. I’ve always loved lantern-style lighting—remember the copper and iron lantern we used in our Craftsman lake house dining room?—so choosing a lantern for our bedroom felt like a natural first purchase. Below I’m sharing the new light I ordered for our bedroom.

As part of my “A Lovely January” home challenge, I’ve been searching for a new ceiling light for our bedroom. I shared my bedroom design plans earlier and have been updating the space as we go. I’m using many existing pieces, but swapping the ceiling fixture is a simple way to add instant style and personality to a room. You can see the current ceiling light in the photo above.
Lighting helps define a room’s style and direction. I considered many types of ceiling fixtures before deciding. Our new house has a coastal feel—designed with a Nantucket-inspired aesthetic, with ocean views and easy beach access—so I wanted a light that felt at home by the sea while still reflecting our personal style. Over the years I’ve always woven a coastal vibe into my homes, and here I’m blending that with the architecture of this particular house.

When I found this lantern I knew it would make a perfect statement in the bedroom. I wanted something that felt fresh but also a bit old-world, classic without being fussy, timeless yet eye-catching. Although I like brass and black finishes, the navy option added a subtle coastal touch that paired beautifully with the brass accents. There are also white and iron finishes available, and I appreciated the range of options when choosing the right look for our space.

I chose the navy finish for our room because it felt like the right balance between coastal color and refined detail. Once the lantern arrives I’ll photograph the installed fixture and share the updated look of the bedroom.
Below are images showing the lantern in other finishes and different inspiration settings to help visualize how it might look in various rooms.

I’m thrilled for the lantern to arrive and will post an update with photos once it’s installed. It’s a small change that will have a big impact on the room’s mood and help tie together the coastal direction we’re taking throughout the house.
