You are invited to The HomeBody Gathering Place. Scroll down to learn more!
How often have we wished for the chance to slow down, be more present, spend more time with family, or focus on making our home a true refuge? This unprecedented season invites us to do the best we can with what we’ve been given. Let’s make beauty out of ashes.
This time of social distancing offers an opportunity to nurture ourselves—body, mind, and spirit. We can choose to be more intentional, to cultivate calm rather than fear in our homes, and to practice compassion by serving and caring for others.
In Washington state we’ve been asked to stay home for the greater good: schools and restaurants closed, public gatherings halted. For the collective benefit, we must create refuge amid the chaos. But instead of seeing it as a retreat we have to endure, let’s see it as a chance we get to take—to create safety, comfort, and kindness for our families and communities.
When I wrote the book Dwelling, I never imagined that a homebody life would become necessary for so many. Nor did I expect that the ways I suggested to gather family, build relationships, and find online community would become so valuable so quickly.

Here we are in March 2020—this isn’t the cozy homebody life any of us planned, but it’s what we’ve been given. Let’s make the most of it. Staying home for a while might help slow the spread of illness, but it doesn’t have to dim our joy, hope, friendship, kindness, or community.
A week ago I felt compelled to bring our community together in a special way for this season. Today I’m inviting you to join The HomeBody Gathering Place—our newest inspired room community.
UPDATE NOVEMBER 2022:
The world went through difficult, unexpected changes after we first opened this invitation. In March 2020 we launched The HomeBody Gathering Place during the initial quarantine, hoping life would quickly return to normal.
That didn’t happen. As circumstances worsened, the time and energy needed to lead this impromptu group became impossible to sustain, even though our desire to foster community never faded.
After two and a half challenging years, we’re thrilled to renew our focus on building connection. We’re relaunching The HomeBody Gathering Place with the same name but in a sustainable, affordable subscription format. This version will include a clear structure to support exclusive member benefits: community activities, teaching sessions, group challenges, courses, and more. It will be a private, welcoming space unlike any we’ve offered before.
The (new) HomeBody Gathering Place is now open for limited-time registration. It’s a cozy, supportive community for HomeBodies who want to create sanctuary for their families.
Join the all-new HomeBody Gathering Place today (registration open for a limited time).

(I know this is a difficult time. Everyone’s circumstances are different and many face unique challenges—my heart and prayers are with you. This community is one small way I’m choosing to respond, and if it helps you in any way we’d love to welcome you.)
We may be home for an indefinite period, but we don’t have to feel isolated. We’re all in this together.
Come spend time with friends across all the places The Inspired Room community gathers. We enjoy connecting here on the blog and through Instagram stories each day, and you’re invited to join any or all of our private groups.

We LOVE The Inspired Room Community. This free group, opened to the public in January, has already grown to more than 1,100 members. It’s a positive, uplifting space to share photos of your home (no perfection required), post projects, ask design questions, and connect with like-minded friends around the world.
