How often have we wished for the chance to slow down, be more present, spend extra time with family, or focus on our homes? This unusual moment invites us to make the most of what we’ve been given and to create beauty from difficulty.

This season of social distancing offers a chance to care for ourselves—body, mind, and soul. We can be intentional about nurturing an atmosphere of calm and faith in our households. It’s also an opportunity to practice compassion, to serve, and to care for others in our communities.

Here in Washington state we’ve been asked to stay home for the greater good. Schools and restaurants are closed and public gatherings are limited. While this requires retreating to our homes, we can choose to see it as an opportunity: we get to create a refuge for our families and neighbors during uncertain times.

When I wrote Dwelling, I never imagined the homebody life would become essential for so many people. The ideas I shared about gathering family at home, building relationships, and finding online communities feel more timely and valuable than ever.

We find ourselves in a situation none of us planned for, but we can still make the best of it. Staying home for a while might slow the virus, but it doesn’t have to slow the spread of joy, hope, kindness, or community.

A week ago I felt called to bring our community together more intentionally. Today you’re invited to join our newest inspired-room community, The HomeBody Gathering Place.

UPDATE NOVEMBER 2022:

The months after we first opened this invitation were difficult and unpredictable. When we launched The HomeBody Gathering Place in March 2020 we expected a short disruption, but the situation evolved in ways none of us anticipated.

As circumstances became more complex, our initial plans to lead this impromptu group became unsustainable. Still, our desire to build a thoughtful community never left.

We’re now excited to relaunch The HomeBody Gathering Place with a sustainable, affordable subscription model. This version includes structure and exclusive member benefits: community activities, regular lessons, group challenges, courses, and more. It will be a welcoming private community unlike any we’ve offered before.

The (new) HomeBody Gathering Place is now open for a limited-time registration — a cozy space for inspired homebodies who want to create sanctuary for their families.

Join the all-new HomeBody Gathering Place today (registration open for a limited time).

Note: I know this is a challenging time and everyone’s circumstances are different. My thoughts and prayers are with you. This community is one way I’m choosing to make the best of this season, and we’d love to have you join if it would help.

We may be home for an indefinite period, but we don’t have to be alone. We’re in this together.

Come connect with friends across the places The Inspired Room community gathers. We enjoy sharing here on the blog and on Instagram stories each day, and you’re welcome to join any or all of our private communities.
