It’s no secret in our home: we love funny animals. From childhood favorites like Frog & Toad to the movies that make us laugh, animals have always been a source of joy. Reading those stories aloud to the kids would leave us all laughing until tears came.

Our home even has a playful animal gallery wall in the kids’ bathroom—proof that our affection for whimsical creatures shows up everywhere.

We also enjoy animal films like Babe, and our household chat is filled with pictures and texts of amusing animals all day long. It’s a family trademark—quirky, affectionate, and entertaining.

On a recent shopping trip to Michaels while hunting for a theme for our Christmas tree, we spotted a charming idea that fit us perfectly: woodland animals. Small felt ornaments, bottle brush critters, and pinecone creatures kept appearing in stores and finally it clicked—this was our theme.

The bottle brush animals and pinecone ornaments we found were sweet and tasteful, not tacky. Their little faces and tiny legs won us over immediately. We pictured them nestled among golden pinecones, glittery garland, and rustic burlap ribbon, creating a cozy woodland scene inside the tree.

We planned to make some handmade ornaments to complement the store-bought pieces, but life intervened. My daughter’s usually-reliable ten-year-old Honda broke down in Seattle, and in the chaos the craft supplies were accidentally left in the trunk when the car was towed. We later learned the transmission had failed, so between the stress and the repairs, our crafting plans were delayed.

Although we don’t have the DIY ornaments to show yet, the woodland tree reveal is still coming. We’ll share the finished look on Wednesday, and hope to have some handmade ornament projects to present the following weekend.

Stay tuned later today for a special “3 Looks” inspiration board post and a coupon code for Red Letter Words.

Happy Monday before Thanksgiving, everyone!

The Dream Christmas Tree Challenge gift card that helped with ornaments and the tree was provided by Michaels. I’ll share links to other participants’ trees in the reveal post so you can see more creative holiday themes this week.
