I love hanging garland and wreaths on my mantel, front door, staircase, windows and furniture. I like each piece to drape just so, or hang in the exact spot that looks right. For years I struggled with how to secure decorations neatly without damaging surfaces or ending up with items that sagged or fell.
I’ve tried tying, wiring, ribbon, nails, suction cups, thumbtacks and other methods. Often I couldn’t get a wreath or garland positioned exactly where I wanted. Sometimes I regretted hammering a permanent hole into a door or mantel. Other times my decorations slid or tumbled to the floor. It was frustrating.
OK, not sure why this picture is sideways
but you can turn your head to read it, right?
Finally I discovered a simple solution that works better than anything I tried before: Command Hooks to the rescue. These adhesive hooks let me hang holiday decor without nails or permanent damage, and they hold surprisingly well. They’ve become my go-to for wreaths, garlands and other seasonal accents.
These hooks can stick just about anywhere to hang holiday decor!
I had already been using Command Hooks around the house to hang everyday items and even a chalkboard frame on my refrigerator. Now that I’m decking the halls, they are perfect for seasonal decorating. The hooks come in several styles, including traditional hooks and more of a velcro-style system, and I’ve used both successfully.
Here is a hook tucked back behind all of my holiday garland on my mantel!
My garland swoops down on my fireplace front so these hooks keep the garland in place!
Using Command Hooks means no more hoping the garland will stay draped perfectly or wrestling with an awkwardly placed wreath on a door with molding or a window. I can hide the hooks behind greenery or trim and position everything exactly where it looks best. They make it easy to create a polished, symmetrical look on mantels, stair rails and doors.
I plan to use a Command Hook for my door wreath too — hanging wreaths has always been tricky because of our door’s window and raised molding. The adhesive hooks let me secure the wreath where I want it without relying on over-the-door hangers or making holes.
Command Hooks are straightforward to install and remove cleanly when the season ends. So far they have held everything I’ve hung without incident. I purchase them at Target in the picture hanger and hook aisle, and they are also available online. I wasn’t sponsored to say this — they’re just genuinely useful for decorating.
Yay! Back to decorating for me… getting a little jump on things before Thanksgiving…
