First Time Using an Instant Pot: Beginner Tips and First Recipes

True confession: I bought an Instant Pot a few years ago, but I was so nervous about it that I returned it.

Last year my daughters Kylee and Courtney each bought an Instant Pot and raved about theirs. Their Instagram stories showed them making healthy, delicious meals, and their enthusiasm convinced me to give the Instant Pot another try.

Even so, my new Instant Pot sat in its box for months. Fear and the inertia of old habits held me back.

Finally, I asked my daughter Kylee to walk me through how to use it. I recorded her teaching me and shared the clips on my Instagram Stories; I saved them in my highlights if you want to watch. She offered simple, practical tips that made the process easy and stress-free.

My first successful recipe was black beans — nothing fancy, but they turned out wonderfully and tasted far better than canned beans. Most importantly, nothing dramatic happened: no explosions, no disasters.

Next I might try rice, a one-pot meal, or a soup. I’m still a little apprehensive, but rewatching our short tutorial gives me confidence to try more recipes. I’ll probably ask Kylee for another lesson along the way.

This is the Instant Pot model closest to the one I now have.
