Fillable Glass Lamp Ideas for Stylish DIY Lighting

Summer House Tour - The Inspired Room

Recently I mentioned having trouble finding large glass lamps and that I had made a DIY glass bottle lamp instead. Since then I discovered that HomeGoods stocked several beautiful, oversized glass lamps — including the ones I placed on my console cabinet — and I was thrilled to find them. They make a strong, stylish statement in the room.

These lamps aren’t as large as my jar lamp, but they are a substantial size and work wonderfully as eye-catching accents. A large lamp or two can really anchor a space and add balance to a console or side table.

One of the nicest features of these glass lamps is the cork “lid” that lifts off, which means you can fill the base with seasonal or personal items. I like them plain and airy, but they’re also perfect for displaying holiday decorations, shells, pinecones, postcards, vintage books, keepsakes, or even a mini terrarium. Faux plants or flowers are another low-maintenance option if you want a long-lasting look.

I haven’t filled mine yet, but I’ve been collecting inspiration and ideas. Filling a lamp is a simple, effective way to refresh a room for each season or occasion without changing the whole decor.

Below are a few inspiring examples and ideas for what to put inside a fillable glass lamp. They show how versatile these pieces can be—whether you prefer a minimalist empty look or a lamp filled with colorful or textured objects for visual interest.
