Today I wanted to share a quick update answering some of the most common questions I get about pieces in our home. I can’t cover everything in one post, but here are answers for many of the items people ask about regularly.
One of the most-asked-about pieces is our leather sofa. We bought it about two and a half years ago when we still lived in our previous house. We chose leather — a toffee/caramel color — because I loved the tone and because my white slipcovered sofa was becoming impractical. With two pups coming in and out all day, keeping a white slipcover clean became more than I wanted to manage. I still appreciate slipcovers for their ease of cleaning, but at that point leather felt like the right choice.
I’ve had no regrets. The leather sofa has been carefree and durable. Our dog Jack sometimes gets rambunctious and tries to dig at the sofa; despite a few surface scratches he has never punctured it. Over time the leather has softened and gained character. It’s more comfortable now than when we first bought it, and I love how it’s aged.
I give it a thumbs up!

This little stand generates a lot of questions whenever I post it. I’ve had it for quite a while and it remains one of my favorite pieces. It’s sturdy and versatile, so it’s useful in the kitchen, dining room, and elsewhere. It would suit many rooms in the house.

The mug rack I bought years ago has become one of the most-asked-about items I’ve posted. Also pictured is my longtime espresso machine — it was a splurge (a gift from my parents) but made excellent coffee and lasted for many years. I no longer have an espresso machine at the moment, but I’m very happy with my copper French press, another frequently asked-about item.

Many of my mugs are collected locally or coming from shops like Anthropologie. We also love simple ceramic mugs such as Rae Dunn pieces — practical, casual, and charming on a mug rack. A larger 24-hook mug rack is a great option for displaying a collection and keeping things organized.

I enjoy decorating with meaningful artwork. I added an “It Is Well” sign before last Christmas and it quickly became a favorite. Choosing art that resonates with your family makes a room feel personal and warm.

One of my best purchases is a cabinet I found on sale at Restoration Hardware. In an antiqued taupe finish, it was a reasonably priced option at the time and has held up beautifully. It’s solid, practical storage that still looks good years later.
I also own blue and white lamps in two shades (navy and light blue). They survived a move and everyday life with kids and dogs, so they get my approval for both style and durability.

This glass essential oil diffuser (the Aria) is another item that gets plenty of attention. It’s beautiful, plays music, and works well in our living room. I’ve used mine for a couple of years and it’s still going strong.

A simple wood iPad stand has been a frequently asked-about accessory; I’ll be using it again in our new kitchen. It’s handy for recipes, browsing, and keeping a device upright and accessible.

Tassel blankets have become a popular decor piece, and the oversized tassel throw I bought a few years ago has been a favorite for adding texture and a cozy statement to a bed or sofa. They make an inviting, layered look and are great for seasonal styling.

I have two dip-dyed stools that I bought a few years back and still use them often. They double as side tables, plant stands, or extra seating and add a casual, artistic touch to a room.

Before Christmas I decided our living room needed a larger rug. I found a cable knit wool rug on sale and it has exceeded expectations. Initially it shed a bit, but that settled down. The rug is soft, plush, and neutral gray with a braided-like texture. It made the room feel cozier and more inviting, and compared to similar rugs I’ve seen elsewhere, it felt like a good value for the quality.

I also still love my blue and white outdoor-style rug. It makes a strong design statement, is durable for family life, and works well in high-traffic areas. Patterned statement rugs can really define a space while holding up to everyday use.
