Driving Through Magnolia, Seattle: Stunning Homes Tour (Part 2)

It’s time for another drive-by! YAY!

A few weeks ago I shared a drive-by tour of Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood and promised I’d return with more photos. My daughter Courtney and I had an afternoon free recently, so we parked and wandered the streets, phones in hand, photographing the charming homes and architectural details that caught our eyes.

First, my usual disclaimer:

I’m not a stalker. I don’t peek into windows. I simply enjoy beautiful houses. Often when I’ve posted drive-by photos before, owners have thanked me — which is always a relief.

We started near where we parked. I adore rounded doors, and this cheerful red one was irresistible. The house rises three stories in back, with lovely siding and proportions.

One house in particular lured me back to Magnolia. Its shingled façade and graceful lines are stunning. From the right angle it overlooks the mountains, Puget Sound and the city — an incredible setting.

Even the side of the house is picture-perfect.

The front overlooks sweeping views of the mountains, city and water. My daughter and I joked that we should get bikes so we could do “bike-bys” on streets like this.

Across the side street sat another elegant home, its proportions and details equally appealing.

We continued toward a small brick house that was for sale. From the back it looks directly out on boats, water and mountains — a commanding view that makes the property special.

The architecture on this brick home was irresistible. I admit I lingered at the gate, wishing I could peek inside. The gates and fencing were a clear sign that the owners value privacy — understandable, and actually helpful for seeing inside while still respecting boundaries.

I even half-joked about a rehearsed line if a realtor had caught me peering in: “I’m looking for a house in the neighborhood and thought this might be an open house.” Fortunately, there was no awkward moment; we simply admired the exterior and moved on.

I know I probably look a little ridiculous standing outside gates and craning my neck, but I can’t help it — beautiful homes make me daydream. I can picture pulling into that driveway and feeling instantly at home.

While taking photos, my daughter captured a candid shot of me being, well, a little house-obsessed. If you received this via email the image might not display, but it’s a fun behind-the-scenes moment.

As we continued, I noticed one front gate slightly ajar. For a second I considered stepping through, but Courtney quickly said, “No, Mom.” I laughed and we walked back to the car — another successful, non-intrusive neighborhood stroll.
