Last November I decided to turn the tables and get to know you a little better. While I always enjoy hearing from you in comments, emails and on social media, I wanted to learn more about the people who read along. You already learn a lot about my home (and in my new book you’ll read even more house stories), but I truly enjoy hearing about your homes and the stories behind them.
I loved that so many of you joined the conversation and shared where you live and details about your home. It was a joy to read every single comment, and it warmed my heart to see readers respond to one another — you are kindred spirits who love homes as much as I do. I was thrilled to see many of you comment for the first time, too.
So today I’m opening the conversation again with another get-to-know-you question. Would you delurk and join in? I’d love that, and I know other readers enjoy it as well.
Here’s the question for today’s installment: how would you define your decorating style in words? It can be tricky to pin down. Many of us admire several styles but end up decorating in one that fits our house or what we already own.
Tell us about the style you use now and whether you’re happy with it or evolving toward something new. This is just for fun. You can mention favorite colors, the type of furniture you choose, or labels like cottage, modern, farmhouse, traditional, mid-century modern, coastal, or simply eclectic — a collected, handed-down look. Is your style influenced by your house type or by what you love? If you’re transitioning to a new look, describe that change. And if you’re just starting out or don’t have a defined style yet, share that too.
It’s so enjoyable to hear from you. There are over 600,000 monthly readers here at The Inspired Room, so getting to know more of you personally means a lot to me.
If you’re unsure how to leave a comment, it’s simple. Click the comment link at the end of the post to open the comment box. Enter your name and email (the email is a security feature) and type your comment. You can leave the “url” or “website” field blank unless you want to add a link.
Ready, set, delurk!
PS. Thank you to everyone voting in the Better Homes & Gardens contest. The decorating nominees now appear on the last screen, so you may need to scroll to the end to find them. There is a “skip this category” option, or you can vote in each category.
