Day 19: How to Set Up a Perfect Gift-Wrapping Station

One of the things I miss most about my old, larger house is the separate craft room. Having a dedicated space made it effortless to find any craft or wrapping supply I needed. Since moving, I’ve become more intentional about storage and more creative with using small spaces. I’m still refining my system, but I’ve found lots of inspiration from online images and simple solutions that work in smaller homes.

Most homes have more usable space than we think. You don’t always need an entire room devoted to crafting or wrapping. Look for overlooked nooks, the backs of doors, small closets, or corners of a hallway. Even a compact, well-organized area can hold rolls of paper, ribbon, tape and gift tags. With a little creativity, those forgotten spaces become functional and tidy storage zones.

If your wrapping supplies are still a jumble, take a moment to plan where you could store essentials so wrapping becomes enjoyable instead of a chore. No one wants to wrestle with a crushed roll of paper from a torn cardboard box under the bed. A few smart storage solutions can make gift wrapping faster, neater and more pleasant.

You don’t need a large, fancy craft room — often a compact, well-planned setup is enough. Here are some practical spots to consider:

A free-standing cabinet
An unused closet
A back-of-the-door rack
A pegboard in a hallway
A wall rack in a little-used bedroom
A laundry room
And any other small spaces you can repurpose

Now is also a great time to gather attractive ribbons, tags and small decorative items you can use for wrapping. I plan to share more gift-wrapping posts with ideas and techniques to inspire creative presentation—simple touches that make gifts feel special.
