As someone who has long battled procrastination and difficulty staying focused, developing clear daily routines changed my life. I needed routines not just to keep the house in order, but to restore joy at home. Daily habits help me prioritize what must be done so I can accomplish what matters and still have time for personal goals.
About seven years ago I shared my basic daily routines on The Inspired Room. By opening up about my struggles, I realized many people were searching for a simpler approach to home management. Since then I’ve learned a great deal about productivity and living intentionally. I enjoy sharing what has worked for me, and I love hearing when simple changes make a real difference for others.
I wasn’t the “born-organized” type, and reading organizing books or keeping lists wasn’t enough. The change came when I began to recognize my habits, accept my limitations, and put practical strategies in place to work around those challenges.
In recent years I uncovered a key reason I struggled with clutter: I was indecisive and unfocused in many areas of life. Once I learned I could train myself to be more inspired, decisive, and focused where it mattered, I accomplished far more with less stress.
Learning to be intentional and focused transformed how I approach my home and life. I still face moments of clutter, but I now have specific, practical ways to regain focus and stay motivated.

The simple habits and mindsets I adopted have had a positive impact on my home, style, business, and family. I share what has been effective because it gives hope to those who want to simplify their homes and lives.
Here are five practical tips for setting daily routines that can transform your life:
- Be decisive.
Clarify your goals for your home and life. Vague or unrealistic goals make progress difficult. To create a calm, organized home, decide what you want to allow into your space and focus on the daily steps required to reach that vision. - Commit to discipline.
How you start your day shapes how it unfolds. Whether you leave early for work, manage kids’ schedules, or work from home, begin each day with realistic purpose and attainable goals. Consistent discipline is what creates lasting change. - Focus on your dailies.
You don’t need to do everything every day—success comes from doing a few essentials consistently. My daily tasks are making the bed, cleaning the sink, running a load of laundry, and a couple of short cleaning bursts. Those small efforts add up quickly. - Practice productivity.
Habits develop with repeated practice. If you want to be more organized and meet your goals, keep practicing—even after setbacks. Over time, routines become easier and more automatic. - Eliminate distractions.
Identify what pulls you away from your priorities. Remove non-essential tasks and clutter from your home and schedule to reduce stress and free time for what truly matters. Sticking to your daily routines helps you manage a busy life more effectively.

If you struggle to stay focused, keep up with housekeeping, or eliminate clutter, my book Make Room for What You Love offers practical guidance and encouragement. It’s different from my other books and is designed to inspire action and sustainable change.
Readers often tell me the book motivates them to get up and make progress in their homes as they read—that’s the highest compliment I could receive. My goal was not just to provide ideas but to inspire real, actionable steps so you can see results.
