Welcome to Fall Nesting!
We all long for a home that feels warm, cozy, and welcoming. Even if it’s sweltering where you are right now — and you’re dreaming of air conditioning — it’s possible to start thinking about the mood you want your home to have when autumn arrives.
In this Fall Nesting series, the idea is simple: the way we want our homes to feel inside doesn’t have to depend on the current weather outside. This series is meant to inspire you to take steps toward creating a comfortable, inviting home for fall, while also offering ideas that make your space feel settled and enjoyable in every season.
Some days it’s harder to get into a “fall” mindset, especially if the weather won’t cooperate. That’s exactly why I created this series — to help bring that cozy feeling into your home regardless of the thermometer. You’re in the right place, friends. My hope is to spark ideas that help you shape a home you’ll love for fall and beyond.
Cozy and Inviting (Get the Look!) — a mini-series inside Fall Nesting
This “Cozy and Inviting” mini-series highlights rooms that create the warm, lived-in feeling many of us crave. I’ll share inspiring rooms and then list the elements that contribute to their cozy atmosphere.
Sometimes the focus will be classic fall touches — think pumpkins and plaid — and other times we’ll concentrate on broader design choices: texture, color, lighting, and accessory mixes that convey comfort. After that, I’ll suggest practical ways to bring the look into your own home.
There isn’t a single correct way to decorate. I believe your home should reflect what’s authentic to you. Take the ideas that resonate, leave what doesn’t, and adapt inspiration to fit your style. Ready? Let’s do this.

COZY & INVITING KITCHEN
Notes on what stands out and ideas to consider if you want to recreate this feel:
- Mixed metals: the space uses nickel, stainless steel, brass, and gold accents together for a layered, collected look.
- Textured wall surfaces: aged or antique-looking tile adds depth and a subtle sense of history.
- Rugs: warm striped rugs with touches of blue add color, warmth, and anchor the kitchen’s work zones.
- Everyday items displayed: leaving some functional pieces on the counter—like a French press, a crock of utensils, olive oil in a pretty bottle, or a soup pot—creates a homey, lived-in vibe.
- Natural accents: concrete pots with plants and wooden accessories introduce organic warmth.
- Warm lighting: pendant shades with gold detailing and even a table lamp on the counter bring soft light and a cozy atmosphere. Lamps in kitchens can be surprisingly comforting.

Consider mixing metals rather than matching everything, adding a warm runner or small rugs, and displaying a few everyday items that are both useful and attractive. Choose layered lighting—pendants plus a lamp or under-cabinet lights—to create a softer, cozier kitchen glow. Incorporate natural textures like wood bowls, concrete planters, or woven baskets for an inviting finish.
Fun note: I’ve been writing this observation-style series since 2008. While some older posts have lost images over time, the practice of studying and describing rooms has always yielded interesting insights and reader conversations.
If you’re curious, the early “observation” posts are a reminder of how much design sharing has changed since the early days of blogging. They’re still worth a read if you enjoy learning from images and the details they reveal.
