Thank you Walmart for sponsoring this post!

I like to keep holiday decorating simple. In this post I’ll explain what simple looks like for me and how I decorated our porch using a few easy, cozy pieces I purchased online at Walmart. Shopping online made it fast and convenient to create a warm seasonal space that will last through the holidays.

Our previous house had two tiny covered porches—cute, but barely big enough to stand on. Our new porch is large enough to sit and relax, so I wanted it to feel inviting for quiet winter mornings with coffee or for catching up over hot cocoa. Making it festive without overdoing it was my goal.

To add a touch of holiday sparkle for evenings, I placed three lighted birch trees around the seating area; they’re especially magical at night. I added two navy plaid throw blankets for chilly moments and woven tree pillows to winterize the Adirondack chairs. Our large aqua mugs are perfect for keeping hands warm while enjoying a hot drink outdoors.

The birch trees come with bases, but I tucked a couple into baskets to give them a more natural look and hide the stands. Using baskets made the arrangement feel intentional and cozy without extra fuss.

This porch came together quickly and feels both cozy and festive. Simple decorating means different things to different people, and your ideal level of festivity should reflect what brings you joy. For me, a few well-chosen accents are enough to make the space feel special without feeling cluttered.

There is a lot of holiday inspiration online that can make you feel like you should do more or less. Don’t let that pressure steal your enjoyment. Use inspiration to guide you, but decorate in a way that feels right for your home and season of life.

Shopping at Walmart made my process easier—it’s a convenient one-stop option for decor and hosting essentials. My approach is to keep the process manageable: pick a few focal spots (a porch, mantel, staircase, entry or table), then start with one area and add a simple seasonal touch. If I want, I can move on to another space later. Often the first spot is all I need to feel festive and satisfied.

My decorating routine begins by choosing a few areas where I want to add cheer. Then I focus on one spot at a time, adding a single festive element and stepping back. If I feel like doing more, I return later. Many years your needs and energy will change—give yourself permission to decorate more or less depending on the season you’re in.

Ultimately, decorate in a way that brings you peace and happiness. Every stage of life is different—honor yours by creating a simple, meaningful holiday atmosphere you’ll actually enjoy. I’ll share more decorating thoughts in a future post.
