The cool bite in the morning air here in the Northwest is a sure sign that fall is on its way. As a dedicated autumn fan, I’m thrilled, though I’m also savoring the last warm moments of summer. Many of you are likely doing the same—stretching out the season and enjoying every last sunny day.
That said, I love fall and I’m excited to begin what I call Fall Nesting.
As regular readers know, one of my simple pleasures is honoring the rhythms of the seasons. I enjoy shifting the atmosphere of my home gradually, letting each change unfold naturally rather than forcing a dramatic transformation overnight.
I’ve often said that seasonal transitions don’t need to feel abrupt. You don’t have to flip a switch and cover every surface with autumn decor to feel the season. If you enjoy decorating quickly and fully, that’s wonderful. For me, though, the process is more measured.
I prefer a slow, deliberate approach—adding one texture, one layer, one cozy element at a time—so the home evolves comfortably and the change feels lived-in rather than staged.
With mornings now requiring socks to walk around the house, I began putting together a fall playlist to help shift my mood. Music is a simple, effective way to set the tone and gently usher in a cozier mindset without rushing the rest of the decorating.
Even though pumpkins might not appear on my porch until October, there’s no harm in easing into the feeling of fall. Small rituals—like a playlist, a textured throw, or a warm candle—help create that seasonal nest without overwhelming the space.
What kind of atmosphere do you want your home to have this fall? A thoughtfully curated playlist might be just the inspiration you need. Below is the playlist I’ve been listening to to get into a cozy, autumnal headspace.

Have you made any changes in your home to welcome the fall season?
