I’m extra excited about fall this year. Not that I’m not always excited about the season, but each autumn feels fresh and full of possibility. We’re in that awkward stage of being fully moved in but not yet settled, and I’m enjoying the slow, simple work of making this house feel like home.
There’s something comforting about creating a cozy place for your family in the fall. Even small touches—the warm plaid blankets, a stack of soft pillows, the plush pumpkins—remind me that, layer by layer, this house will become our home.
You can find this mirror in the shop. The lamp I used is the Safavieh Color Swirls Lamp in Navy; I found mine on Overstock, though it’s often out of stock.
What makes a house feel lived-in is the layering—the throws, rugs, baskets, and personal accents that add warmth and character. Those layers turn a space from something that looks staged into a reflection of the people who live there. Nesting is a process that takes time and patience: a few experiments, some adjustments, small wins and occasional missteps. Gradually the pieces of the puzzle fall into place and the overall vision for the home becomes clear.
The real joy of nesting isn’t just styling a perfect vignette or adding seasonal decor. It’s settling into a comfortable rhythm of daily life—finding little routines and spaces that feel right. Puttering around the house may seem trivial, but in the fall it feels like a meaningful way to welcome home the family and create a calm, inviting atmosphere.
