I woke up this morning on a glorious October day to rain pounding on the roof. Naturally, I slipped into full fall nesting mode. I turned up the fireplace, pulled on a cozy sweater and a fun scarf, and began puttering around the house—happy as can be.
After my coffee, of course.
While puttering, I decided the entry needed a little extra warmth. By the time I got to it the sun had come out—yay, fall! I love how a single day can bring sunshine, rain, chill and warmth all in a few hours.
So I aimed to make the entry feel snug and welcoming while keeping it bright and cheerful.

I searched for things I already had and found a plaid runner from last year’s holiday table. Yes, it has tiny snowflakes, but you really can’t see them unless you zoom in—so let’s not do that. The subtle plaid added a soft, cozy layer to the dresser without buying anything new. Bonus.

Next I tucked the dresser closer into the corner of the staircase instead of keeping it centered on the wall. I instantly loved the change—such a simple shift made the entry feel much more intimate.

To make the space even cozier, I brought over a chair and an ombre pillow from my office. The chair is from World Market; the vase, basket and pillow are from Target; the lamp is a DIY bottle lamp; and the dresser was a flea market find. The mix of pieces makes the corner feel lived-in and welcoming.
Cozy, cozy, cozy—how many times can one use that word in a post? It certainly fits.

I ran to the market and picked up fall flowers, pumpkins and squash. I loved the combination of oranges, blues and greens on the dresser—neutral tones are calming, but those pops of color really make me smile. As the season progresses, the palette can shift too, so you can refresh the vignette over time.
