Cozy Corners: Creating a Warm, Comfortable Home

I mentioned recently that we’ve decided to stay in this house and put down deeper roots. We feel content with that decision. Of course life changes, needs shift, and desires evolve, so nothing is certain long term — and that’s fine. I’m at peace with the unknown, too.

Knowing that our current plan is to remain here (as we enter a season of becoming empty nesters this fall) has made dreaming about the house and future projects more enjoyable. It feels more purposeful when you know changes will serve your family, not just a passing trend.

For me, nesting is emotional as much as practical. I don’t design for photoshoots; I design to create a home that works and feels right for us. When a project supports our daily life, I get genuinely excited.

This weekend my husband and I got inspired and rearranged some furniture. Our antique Chinoiserie cabinet, which has moved in and out of the living room over the years, is back in place. We’ve ordered new artwork to hang above it that’s on the way. Once the art arrives I’ll share how we’re using the cabinet and how the corner comes together.

As we tidied and moved pieces around, ideas started bubbling up about an underused corner of the living room. The plan we sketched out is simple, budget-friendly, and quick to implement.

Best of all, the change will be meaningful for our family — practical, welcoming, and tailored to how we live. Small updates like this can make a big difference in how a home functions and feels.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the reveal of what we have in mind!
