Spring is approaching, but the winter mornings are still quite dark when I head to the kitchen for coffee. Recently I had a simple idea that made a big difference: I moved a cordless lamp from the porch into my coffee cabinet. Now I just tap the lamp before I start making coffee, and the soft light makes the whole routine feel warmer and more welcoming.
These portable lamps come with two interchangeable shades and several finish options, including striped designs that add a playful touch. They’re unbreakable and waterproof, which is why I originally used them outdoors, but they work anywhere in the house. I have two sets—one with a white and a rattan shade and another with a red-and-white stripe that I plan to use outside in summer.

To add more cozy detail, I placed a flameless votive candle inside a small teacup in the cabinet. I set the candle on a timer so it’s gently flickering by the time I open the cabinet each morning—such an easy way to make a simple routine feel special.

These cordless lamps allow you to choose between cooler or warmer light simply by tapping the top to switch color temperature. The image above shows the cooler-toned setting, which gives a crisp, clean glow that’s great for mornings when you need a little extra clarity.

Here’s to cozier winter mornings and the reminder that spring is on its way. Little updates like a portable lamp and a timed votive add warmth and ritual to everyday moments.
On a related note, I’ve been enjoying my new espresso machine and have gathered more of my favorite coffee supplies for easy reference.
