I wanted to make our home feel festive a bit earlier this year. It seemed like the perfect way to lift our spirits and make the season feel special. We used many of our usual decorations—garlands and wreaths, a couple of green trees, paper snowflakes and small holiday houses. It doesn’t take much to add a little extra joy.
There’s no single right way to decorate for the holidays. Some people enjoy elaborate displays; others prefer a more minimal approach. This year, follow what feels right for you. Pull out the familiar pieces if they bring warm memories, or try something new if you want a fresh look. It’s your home and your family—decorate in a way that feels best for you.
This year has felt unusual for many of us, so if creating a cozy, magical space helps you feel more joyful, have fun with it. If holiday decorating feels overwhelming right now, that’s perfectly okay too. Give yourself grace—you deserve it.
I’ve enjoyed seeing so many of your homes in The Inspired Room Community—if you’re a member, please share photos. It’s inspiring to see how everyone brings their own style and warmth to the season.
We’ve had a few funny mishaps already: some garland fell in the kitchen, a couple of large paper snowflakes came crashing down, and Jack grabbed some felt ornaments off the tree (as he always does). Two steps forward, three steps back seems to be our rhythm, but we’re making progress and having fun along the way.
I’m planning a full Christmas tour here on the blog soon, but here’s a little sneak peek.

Years ago we made mason jar snow globes and I still bring them out each season—they remain a favorite little touch.

I also added new striped curtains in the dining room this year. I love the stitched detail—they add subtle texture and warmth to the space.

Jack and Lily are so comfortable here with the fireplace on, tree lights glowing and holiday music playing. This is where our family naturally gathers; it feels cozy and welcoming, the kind of place you want to linger.

I found a new winter diffuser shaped like an owl that I adore—Snowy the Owl. He’s charming, plays soothing white noise and comes with stickers to personalize him. The kit included two oils—one with a bright orange-creamsicle scent and another designed to support sleep—which make him both cute and practical. If you’re interested in essential oil kits or adding this diffuser to a starter set, I’m happy to help—just get in touch.
There’s also a seasonal starter bundle available for a simple way to try a few favorites and gift them to others during the holidays.
If you have questions about kits or products, feel free to text me at the number listed on the site.

Only one paper snowflake is still hanging after a few mishaps—most of our snowflakes and some garland came down despite using adhesive strips. We might try thumb tacks next time. Paper snowflakes are an easy, charming accent and come in sets or individually.

Several readers asked where our white painted bookcase is located—it sits in the living room, beside the dining area. It’s been wonderful to have a bookcase back in this space for both books and seasonal decor. It’s also been handy for displaying boxwood garland and white houses.
I’ll share more of our Christmas decorating here on the blog and in my Instagram stories over the next few weeks.
