While gathering ideas for our new small backyard, I came across a photo I took years ago of an absolutely charming gate and house we spotted during a walk in Seattle. That little garden gate with the rose cutout is so sweet. Cottage-style gates like this always feel like an invitation—suggesting a secret garden or a special nook waiting just beyond.
I’ve long been drawn to gates with character. A simple cutout or window adds personality to what would otherwise be a purely functional element. They create curiosity and a sense of welcome, making a front path or side yard feel more intimate and storybook-like.

My mom will have a gate on the side of our house leading to her new cottage entrance, and I’m excited to see that space come to life.
