Bookcases bring an instant sense of charm and warmth to a room. I love how they make a space feel like a cozy, personal library. This year we had plans to install built-in cabinets and bookcases in both our dining room and living room — something I’d dreamed about since we moved in.
Those plans were postponed unexpectedly this year. It was disappointing, but instead of waiting I decided to get creative and make the best of the situation.
A couple of weeks ago, while tidying up the house, an idea came to me. Before long I’d recruited the whole family to help bring up a large freestanding wooden bookcase from the garage. We’d moved it here knowing it might find a place someday, and now was the time. With our newly arranged living room, the spot was perfect.
Once the bookcase was in place, my husband painted it the same color as our walls and trim. A fresh coat of Benjamin Moore Simply White made it blend in seamlessly and gave it the built-in look I’d been longing for. It transformed the piece and made the room feel finished — I’m completely in love with how it turned out.
I’ll share a photo of the finished bookcase once the paint is fully cured, so stay tuned for that update.
