I hope you had a lovely weekend. I spent mine puttering around the house — my favorite pastime. It often takes time to find the perfect arrangement when you’re working with pieces you already own. I like to unplug, be present in my space, and try furniture and decor in new combinations. Sometimes a simple swap of art or moving a chair into a different corner makes everything click. Other times it takes a bit of experimentation to discover what truly feels right in the room.
I rearranged a few things recently and love how it turned out, so I’ll be sharing photos of the update this week. For now, here are ideas from our Best of the Best series on what to put at the end of the bed if you have the space.
A pair of poufs
Poufs are versatile, casual, and easy to move. Use a pair for symmetry or mix textures and patterns for a relaxed, layered look. They work well in small spaces and can double as occasional seating or a place to rest a tray.
A bench (and a basket!)
A simple wooden bench paired with a woven basket creates a tidy landing spot for blankets, slippers, or laundry. The bench adds structure and a basket keeps clutter contained while introducing natural texture.
A long upholstered bench
A long upholstered bench or narrow sofa brings an elegant, hotel-like feel. It provides comfortable seating and can visually anchor the bed, especially in larger rooms where you want a softer edge at the foot of the bed.
A small-scale sofa
A petite sofa suits wider bedrooms and creates a cozy seating area without overwhelming the space. Choose a scale that complements the bed and allows for easy movement around the room.
Two X benches
Two X benches or ottomans create symmetry and offer flexible seating. They can flank a blanket basket or be used separately throughout the room, making them both practical and decorative.
A pair of garden stools
Garden stools are compact and decorative, perfect for small footprints. Use a pair to hold lamps, a plant, or a stack of books. Their sculptural quality adds interest without crowding the room.
If you have lots of space, consider creating a full seating area at the foot of the bed: a small sofa with a coffee table, a couple of armchairs with a rug, or a chaise and side table can turn a bedroom into a multifunctional retreat. Most of us don’t have that luxury, but even a compact arrangement can make a big difference.

- A basket or trunk for extra storage
- Two angled chairs to form a conversation nook
- A small desk for a compact workspace
- A chaise lounge for relaxing and reading
- A low dresser to add storage and surface space
