Autumn Entryway Refresh: Cozy Ideas for Small Foyers

This post is in partnership with Wayfair

Can you believe September is just two weeks away? I always look forward to fall nesting. Even while grieving our sweet Jack, as I’ve written in my books A Lovely Life and Dwelling, bringing beauty into our home has been quietly healing.

This week I finally took my own advice and did something small to refresh our entry. My husband plans to paint the door and porch next week, but for now I wanted an easy, welcoming update indoors. I found everything I needed at Wayfair.

Small or awkward entryways can be tricky: you need pieces that are affordable, fit the space, and still feel stylish and useful. Wayfair has a great selection of smaller-scale cottage-style furniture and accessories, which made the search simple and satisfying.

Rug

The colors in this rug felt like the perfect layer of coziness. It came in a compact size (3’6″ x 5’6″), which works well in our narrow entry. The floral palette ties together the colors we already have and sets a warm tone for the space.

This half-round table adds charm and much-needed function to our entry. I wanted a piece similar to our old table but with a lower shelf and a deeper drawer for storage. This table has the right scale and a lovely cottage-y finish that feels right at home.

The lamp with the scalloped shade is tall and slim, which is ideal for a narrow surface. It leaves room for woven storage boxes beneath, which is perfect for corralling keys, gloves, and the small things that otherwise clutter an entry. On a rounded surface it’s important to balance scale and function, and these woven boxes fit the bill.

Wreath

A simple fall wreath adds that finishing touch at the door. I love how the muted autumn tones play against the door color and harmonize with the furniture and rug inside. It’s subtle but welcoming.

Now when we come through the door the space feels like a gentle, warm hug — a cozy reminder of the love and beauty that make our home a sanctuary in every season. I have a few more ideas for this spot, but this small refresh was a meaningful start.

Thank you for the kind comments on my last post about Jack. I read each message and hold your words close — your support means so much to our family.
