White vs Colored Christmas Lights: How to Choose for Your Home

Since it’s Thanksgiving week and many of us are already thinking about holiday plans, let’s have a little fun and weigh in on a lighthearted but surprisingly passionate topic: colored versus white Christmas lights.

Last year I asked this same question and enjoyed reading everyone’s opinions. For years I preferred all white lights because I loved the classic glow—Disneyland-style—that white strands provide. Last season I experimented by adding some colored bulbs to our garland: soft ambers and gentle greens. The result felt fresh and unexpected, and I really loved it. We still have plenty of white lights, so this year I’m torn and may mix both styles again.

What about you — what color lights will you choose this holiday season? It may seem like a small decision, but it can change the whole mood of your decorations. Some people stick with timeless white for a clean, elegant effect, while others embrace colored lights for a nostalgic, cheerful look. There’s no wrong answer; it’s all about the atmosphere you want to create.

Share your preference and why you like it. Are you a white-light purist, a colored-light enthusiast, or a fan of combining the two? Let’s discuss!

Ready, set, go.
